“acute apparitions is an exploration of material, inspiration, and self through mark-making. My initial inspiration came from my experience working in restaurants. I thought about the commitment of my time and physical labor, and in what ways I could use these themes to produce abstract images. An objective of mine was to create inspiration from my routine, and to make sincere work about experiences only I know intimately.

I chose cyanotype, a method of printmaking that produces a deep cyan print, to challenge myself to work with color. To expand on the palette, I experimented with dilution of fabric dyes, never knowing exactly what hue it would produce. The lack of control in my practice is something I consider a big part of the work. I experiment with materials enough to be able to try to predict their outcome, but that is never a given. 

Through the creation of this body of work, I was pushed to confront ideas about accountability, intentionality, and ownership. I continued to ask myself questions about why I was making the art I was, which led to more unexpected and profound questions about my identity as an artist, an employee, a member of my community, a daughter, and a friend.“
